Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “Man, I really need to get an Angolan driving license.” I mean, who doesn’t, right? Just kidding. But seriously, I had this trip planned to Angola, and I wanted the freedom to drive around and explore at my own pace. So, I decided to take the plunge and figure out how to get this license thing sorted. I started by hitting up Google, as one does these days.
After a few clicks, I found some websites, I got that I need an International Driving Permit, called IDP, to drive in Angola legally as a foreigner. Some sites mentioned that I could get an IDP online. Seemed convenient.
Filling Out Forms
Next, I found a site that seemed pretty legit. They had a simple application process. I had to fill out an IDP application form online. It was pretty standard stuff – name, address, you know the drill. Then I had to upload a copy of my valid driver’s license, a photo of my handwritten signature, and a color ID photo. Got all that done without too much trouble.
Waiting Game
After submitting everything, it was just a waiting game. They said it would take about 8 minutes to process, and guess what? They weren’t lying. I got my digital IDP ready for download and use. I also got an ID card that’s handy for quick verification, you know. It was all pretty fast, I gotta say.
Other Documents
Now, I also remembered reading somewhere that besides the IDP, I needed a few other documents to drive in Angola. So, I made sure to have my passport, my regular driver’s license, and my insurance certificate ready to go. Better safe than sorry, right?
Driving School
There’s other way is go to driving school. You need to attend lessons and sit the necessary highway code and driving tests. Once you have attended the preparatory lessons, the driving school will enrol you in the necessary tests to obtain a licence. I don’t have enough time to do that so I chose to apply for IDP online.
All Set!
And that’s pretty much it. I got my digital IDP, and I’m all set to drive around in Angola. Oh, and one more thing I learned – in Angola, they drive on the right side of the road. Good to know!
Honestly, the whole process was way easier than I expected. If you’re planning to drive in Angola, getting an IDP online is definitely the way to go. Just make sure you have all your other documents in order, and you’re good to go. Happy driving!
