Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get an ID card from Montserrat for a while now, and I finally did it! Here’s how it all went down.
Deciding to Get the ID
First off, I had to figure out if this was even something I could do. I’m not a citizen of Montserrat or anything, so I did some digging. Turns out, they have this thing called a “Residents Permit” for non-nationals. That sounded like it could be my ticket in.
Gathering Information
Next up, I needed to get all my ducks in a row. I found some information about Montserrat’s entry requirements and how to get there. It looks like the first stop is usually the V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua, and then it’s just a short flight over to Montserrat’s John A. Osborne Airport. Also, you need to have the same passport you use for your online application on hand when you arrive.

The Application Process
I learned that I’d have to schedule an appointment at some sort of embassy. They would tell me when and where to go and all that. I knew I would need to bring a bunch of documents and be ready to pay a fee during the appointment. This part seemed a little intimidating, but I figured I could handle it.
The Fun Part – Getting There
So, I booked my flight to Antigua and then the connecting flight to Montserrat. I also learned that to get to the main area where I needed to go, I would have to take a cable car. It’s called the “Aeri”, and it’s been running since 1930! Apparently, it’s a super quick way to get up the mountain, taking only about 5 minutes to travel 1,350 meters with a 45% gradient, going at 5 meters per second.
Making it Happen
- Booked the flights: Got my tickets to Antigua and then the short hop over to Montserrat.
- Rode the Aeri: Took the cable car up the mountain, which was a cool experience in itself.
- Appointment time: Went to my appointment, had all my documents, and paid the fee.
Success!
After all that, I finally got my Montserrat ID card! It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it. Now, I feel a little more connected to this beautiful island. If you’re thinking about doing this, just be prepared to do some research and follow the steps carefully. It’s not too bad, and the feeling of accomplishment at the end is great!
