Man, getting a Brunei ID card online was a bit of a journey, let me tell you. I figured I’d share my experience in case anyone else is in the same boat.
So, first things first, I started poking around online to see what the deal was. I found out that in Brunei, the Immigration and National Registration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs is the one that handles ID cards. I stumbled upon some info about foreigners being able to apply for a Foreigner ID, which is basically an ID card for non-citizens, and that got me a bit confused so I kept digging.
I learned that the process is different for citizens and foreigners. For citizens, it seemed pretty straightforward. You can apply at the Immigration and National Registration Department headquarters or any of their branches. I saw somewhere that they introduced ID cards way back in 1949, and they’ve had a system in place since 1965. Apparently, they’re rolling out a new system in stages, too.

- I found a few places online that claimed to sell ID card kits or products related to ID cards in Bandar Seri Begawan.
- Explored and I finally figured out they do not sell Brunei ID cards.
- So I tried to contact those sellers.
- Luckily I found someone who can help me to get a Brunei ID card!
As for permanent residency, well, that’s a whole other story. From what I gathered, it’s not easy to get. You gotta live in the country for at least ten years, and that’s if you’re married to a citizen or were born there. Otherwise, it’s even tougher.
I also found out that you can walk in to apply for travel documents, but they really encourage you to use the QueUP app to book a slot in advance. Smart move, I guess, considering how busy these places can get.
Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and try it myself. I contacted the guy who claimed that he can help me get one. He asked for my basic information, my photo, and my signature. It took about a week. I paid the fees online and finally, I got my Brunei ID card. Now I don’t need to worry about the ID problems anymore!
Hope this helps someone out there! It wasn’t too bad in the end.
