Okay, so, I tried to get an Indonesian passport online. Let me tell you, it wasn’t a walk in the park, but I got through it.
First off, I started by doing some digging around online, just to get a feel for what I was getting myself into. I found this app called “Passport Online” that you can download onto your smartphone. I grabbed that, and then I also stumbled upon this website, *.id, where you can apparently register online.
So, I entered my Population Registration Number into the app, you know, the usual stuff. I also saw somewhere that there are different types of Indonesian passports – Regular and Diplomatic. I’m just a regular guy, so I went for the regular one.

Next, I had to figure out which immigration office to go to. Turns out, you can get this done at any immigration office in Indonesia, or even at Indonesian embassies and consulates if you’re overseas. That’s pretty convenient. Oh, and I read that starting December 1, 2024, if you apply at one of the 13 selected immigration offices, you’ll automatically get an electronic passport.
Then came the payment. I had to pay the fee, and it depends on what kind of passport you’re getting. For a non-electronic regular passport that’s good for 5 years, it’s 350,000 Rupiah. If you want it for 10 years, it’s 650,000 Rupiah. And for an electronic one, it’s also 650,000 Rupiah for 5 years. I went with the 5-year non-electronic one, ’cause that’s all I needed. This passport is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for diplomatic missions.
I also learned that Indonesia doesn’t allow dual citizenship. So, if you become a citizen of another country, you gotta give up your Indonesian citizenship. Makes sense, I guess.
Anyway, after jumping through all these hoops, I finally made it! The passport has 48 pages, which seems like a lot, but hey, more space for stamps, right? It took some time and effort, but I managed to get my hands on an Indonesian passport. Not the easiest thing I’ve ever done, but totally doable if you follow the steps and stay patient.
