Hey everyone, so I recently had to get my hands on a Northern Mariana Islands passport, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience. I thought I’d share my journey here in case any of you are planning to do the same. This is how I got it.
Check If You Need a Passport
First things first, I wasn’t even sure if I needed a passport to go there. Turns out, it depends. Since I’m not a Northern Mariana Islands citizen, I definitely needed one.
Find a Passport Acceptance Office
Next, I started looking for where I could apply. I found out that there aren’t any official passport offices in the Northern Mariana Islands. So, I had to look into other options. I did some digging and found some places in Saipan.

Gather Your Documents
Getting all the paperwork together was a bit of a hassle. I needed a bunch of stuff to prove who I am. Here’s what I had to round up:
- Proof of Citizenship: I needed my original birth certificate, the long-form one. They’re pretty strict about it being an original or a certified copy, so no photocopies allowed.
- Proof of ID: My driver’s license did the trick.
- Passport Photos: I got these done at a local drugstore. Make sure you get the right size and follow the guidelines, or they won’t accept them.
Submit Your Application
Once I had all my documents, I went to one of the places in Saipan to submit my application. I filled out the forms, handed over my documents, and paid the fee. It wasn’t too bad, but I had to wait in line for a bit.
Wait for Processing
After submitting everything, it was just a waiting game. They told me it could take a few weeks, but it actually came a bit sooner than expected, which was a nice surprise.
Get Your Passport
Finally, the day came when I got a notification that my passport was ready. I went back to pick it up, and there it was! Holding my new Northern Mariana Islands passport felt pretty good.
So, that’s my story of getting a Northern Mariana Islands passport. It wasn’t super complicated, but it definitely required some patience and making sure I had all the right documents. If you’re planning to get one, just double-check all the requirements and give yourself enough time. Hope this helps someone out there!
