Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again. Today I’m gonna walk you through the whole process of how I got my Cook Islands visa. It’s not as scary as it sounds, trust me. If I can do it, you can too.
First off, I hit up the Cook Islands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration (MFAI) website. They announced a while back that they’re launching a new online system for visa and permit applications. Fancy, right? But that’s where you wanna start.
So, I jumped onto the website and started poking around. I needed to figure out what kind of visa I needed. Turns out, they got a couple of options: the Visitor Visa, which is good for tourists and business folks staying up to 31 days, and the Work Visa, for people planning to work there. Since I was just going for a quick holiday, the Visitor Visa was my pick.

Next, I started gathering all the documents they asked for. This is important, folks. Make sure you got everything in order or it’s gonna be a headache later. I needed to show them:
- Proof of who I am
- Some character references
- Health documents
- And most importantly, proof that I had enough cash to support myself during my stay.
Once I had all that sorted, I filled out the application form. Double-checked, triple-checked everything, because you don’t wanna mess this up. They ask for some personal info and some other details about your trip and stuff, but it is all straightforward.
After submitting the application, it was just a waiting game. I heard that these applications are usually processed pretty quickly. For American citizens, it’s even easier, because they don’t need a visa to enter for up to 90 days. Lucky them!
While I was waiting, I did some more digging and found out about the eligibility criteria for permanent residency, just in case I fell in love with the place and wanted to stay forever. Apparently, you gotta live there for 10 years, or if you’re from New Zealand, it’s a bit shorter.
Anyway, my visa came through, and it was valid for 90 days from the issue date. Perfect for my trip! And guess what? There was no cost for the visa itself, since they don’t require one for short stays from certain countries.
So yeah, that’s pretty much it. It wasn’t a walk in the park, but it wasn’t rocket science either. Just follow the steps, make sure you got all your documents in order, and you’ll be chilling on those beautiful beaches in no time.
Hope this helps you guys out. If you got any questions, drop them in the comments, and I’ll do my best to answer them. Until next time, stay awesome!
