Well, now, let’s talk about gettin’ yourself a Sri Lanka ID card, eh? It ain’t as easy as pickin’ apples, that’s for sure. Heard tell it’s a whole rigmarole, a real pain in the neck.
First off, you gotta be a Sri Lanka citizen, you know. Can’t just waltz in from somewhere else and expect to get one. And you gotta be 15 years old, or turnin’ 15 soon. Them young’uns gotta get their papers too, just like the rest of us.
Now, from what I gather, there’s this thing called a National Identity Card, or NIC for short. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a piece of paper, or maybe a card, that says who you are. Like them driver’s licenses them city folk got.

Seems like they’re changin’ things up, though. Heard tell they’re startin’ to give out these electronic ID cards, E-NICs they call ‘em. Sounds even fancier, but probably just as much trouble to get. They say it’s gonna start sometime soon, maybe in the next few weeks or months, who knows?
- If you’re a young’un still in school, there’s a special way to apply. Don’t ask me how, but the school folks probably know.
- If you ain’t in school no more, you gotta go to some office and fill out papers. Probably gotta stand in line all day, just like at the post office. And don’t forget to take a picture, just like for a passport!
And Lord help you if you lose your ID card. Then you gotta go to the police station and file a report. More papers, more lines, more hassle. After that, you gotta go get a new picture taken and then go back to them ID card folks. It’s enough to make your head spin.
Some folks are sayin’ you get a text message when your card is ready. That’s newfangled technology for ya. Back in my day, you just had to keep checkin’ back, week after week. But even with the text message, I bet it still takes a good long while.
Now, I heard some young fella say he got his ID on a big ol’ A4 sheet of paper a few years back when he was 17. But I reckon they’re changin’ that now, with these new E-NICs and all. It’s all so complicated these days.
And if you need that ID card for somethin’ important, like travelin’ to another country, well, you better plan ahead. ‘Cause gettin’ that card processed… that’s a whole ‘nother story. It ain’t quick, that’s for sure. Some folks say it’s real challenging, takes a long time and a lot of patience.
So, if you’re lookin’ to get yourself a Sri Lanka ID card, be prepared for a wait. And don’t lose it! ‘Cause gettin’ a new one is a whole heap of trouble. Just remember to be patient and persistent, and eventually you’ll get your hands on that little piece of paper… or that fancy electronic card, whatever they’re givin’ out these days.
I tell you what, it all seems like a big fuss to me. Back in my day, everyone just knew everyone else. Didn’t need no fancy cards to prove who you were. But times change, I guess, and now you gotta have a card for everything.
Anyway, that’s the gist of it. Gettin’ a Sri Lanka ID card ain’t easy, but it’s somethin’ you gotta do if you’re a citizen. Just follow the steps, be patient, and you’ll get there eventually. And if you lose it? Well, bless your heart, you’re in for a long wait. Good luck to ya!
