So, guys, I’ve been meaning to share this for a while – I finally got around to getting my driver’s license in the Solomon Islands. It was a bit of a process, but hey, I did it, and I thought I’d walk you through how it all went down.
First things first, I had to get my hands on the application form, which is called TR07. I got that sorted out and headed over to the IRD. I was pretty stoked to find out that I could get a license for the same classes of vehicles as my old overseas license. Big win there!
Now, if you’re starting from scratch, you gotta go through the learner’s permit phase. Not my case, luckily. But if you are, be prepared for some tests and the whole shebang.

Here’s how it went down for me:
- Filled out the TR07 form: This was pretty straightforward. Just basic info and stuff about what kind of vehicles I wanted to be able to drive.
- Headed to the IRD: This is where the magic happens. I submitted my form and crossed my fingers.
- Got my license: Boom! I was officially licensed to drive in the Solomon Islands. It felt good, man. I was finally able to operate motor vehicles on public roads.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- If you have an overseas provisional license, you’ll need to get a Solomon Islands license and go through the normal process to get a full one. Just like starting from scratch, basically.
- If you’re going for a learner’s permit, you’ll need to pass some written and practical tests. Standard stuff, really.
All in all, it wasn’t too bad. A bit of paperwork, a trip to the IRD, and I was good to go. Now, if you’re looking to get your license in the Solomon Islands, I hope this little rundown helps you out. It’s definitely doable, just takes a little bit of effort. And hey, if I can do it, you can too!
Drive safe out there, folks!
