Alright, so I wanted to get my hands on a Federated States of Micronesia passport. First off, I had to figure out if I was even eligible. Since I wasn’t born there, I had to look into the whole naturalization thing. Turns out, it’s doable, but there are some hoops to jump through. After I confirmed I could apply, I went ahead and grabbed the application form online.
Filling out the form was pretty straightforward. I made sure to double-check everything because they’re strict about mistakes. Oh, and I got it signed and notarized, just like they asked.
Next up, photos. I got two identical passport photos taken. They have to be the standard size and in color, nothing fancy.

- For the payment:
- I got a money order. A cashier’s check would’ve worked too.
- Since I was a new applicant, the fee was 50 bucks. It’s 75 if you’re replacing a lost or damaged one.
I also had to dig up my birth certificate since this was my first time applying. If your passport’s lost or messed up, you need a sworn affidavit instead. I made sure to include postage fees in the envelope. Can’t forget that!
I packaged everything up: the completed, signed, and notarized application, the photos, the payment, and my birth certificate. Then, I sent it off in the mail.
Waiting Game
They say it usually takes about 3 weeks to get your passport. Mine took a little over three weeks. I guess they needed some extra info or something. But hey, it arrived, and that’s what matters.
Now I’ve got my Federated States of Micronesia passport. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it in the end. If you’re thinking about it, just be prepared to fill out some forms and wait a bit. It’s not too bad, though. Now I can use the I-94 automation process when entry. Good luck!
