So, I’ve been wanting to get a New Zealand ID card for a while now. It’s called a Kiwi Access Card, and it’s basically a photo ID that proves your age and identity. I needed to prove my identity and my address. For proof of identity, I initially planned to use my birth certificate, so I had to place an order for one from NZ Deaths and Marriages online. But later I found out that I could just use my expired passport, so I didn’t end up needing to use my birth certificate. For proof of address, I used a recent bank statement. They also need two passport-sized photos of you. I got these done at a local photo shop, no big deal.

Submitting the Application

With everything ready, I went back to the AA Centre. I submitted my completed form, the $60 fee, my identity document, proof of address, and the photos. It felt good to finally get it done. They told me it could take up to 20 working days to receive the card from the date I applied. Patience is a virtue, right?

Receiving the Card

About three weeks later, I got a letter in the mail. It was my Kiwi Access Card! It has my photo, name, date of birth, and a unique identity number, which I also noticed is the same number on my other ID documents. It felt like a weight off my shoulders. No more carrying around my passport or driver’s license just to prove my age. This little card does the trick.
