Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this Sierra Leone ID card thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey.
First off, I started hearing about how these new ID cards are going to be a must-have soon, like starting January 1, 2025. They’re saying these cards have some kind of chip in them that stores all your important personal details. Sounds kinda fancy, right?
So, I got curious and did some digging. Turns out, this National ID Card is supposed to be the official ID for everyone living in Sierra Leone, whether you’re a citizen or not. It’s like, the law now, this NCR Act of 2016 thing. You gotta register with this NCRA group, and that’s where it all begins.

My Little Adventure
I decided to see how this whole registration thing worked. I tried several ways and here is what I found.
- First thing I did was, go to a local registration center. It was packed! Long lines and lots of waiting. I spent hours there, filled out a bunch of forms, and they took my photo and fingerprints. They said they are not issuing ID cards right now, but it’s a big deal.
- Then, I heard about some people who were doing this registration online. So I tried that too. There’s supposed to be a website, but it was super confusing. And I didn’t see any online registration options.
- Finally, I got lucky. I found a local guy who seemed to know what he was doing. I went to him with my registration information and he did his magic.
After that, it was just a waiting game. Took a few weeks, but eventually, I got a message saying my ID was ready. Picked it up, and bam, there it was. Shiny new ID card with my picture and everything. Feels pretty official, I gotta say.
Honestly, the whole process was a bit of a mess, but I got it done. If you’re in Sierra Leone, you better get on this ID card thing too. It’s not just a suggestion, it’s mandatory, and it is the most effective thing from January 1, 2025.
