Alright, so I tried to get a Kiribati passport. Let me tell you, it wasn’t as simple as I thought it would be. First off, I hit up the Immigration Office in Bairiki Tarawa. Their phone numbers are 75021342 and 75021368, in case you need them. I called them up, and they told me I needed to come in person to apply.
So, I went down there and grabbed an application form. Here’s a heads-up: you need someone who’s known you for over a year and isn’t family to vouch for you on the form. Yeah, I know, it’s a bit of a pain. Luckily, I had a buddy who fit the bill, so he signed off on it for me.
After that, I filled out the application, which was pretty straightforward. Just the usual stuff like name, address, and all that jazz. Of course, I had to dig out my old passport because they need to see your most recent one. If you’ve lost yours or it got stolen, I guess you’re in for a bit more of a headache.

Taking the Photo
Then came the photo. I tried to be all tech-savvy and do it online, but honestly, it was a mess. After messing around with it for ages, I found an easier way. I just grabbed my phone, took a selfie, and that was that. Way simpler.
- Go to the Immigration Office.
- Get the application form.
- Have someone who’s known you for over a year (and isn’t family) endorse it.
- Fill out the form.
- Submit your old passport with the application.
- Take a passport photo. I just used my phone.
Finished the whole process, it wasn’t too bad. Just a few hoops to jump through. If you’re planning on getting a Kiribati passport, hopefully, my little adventure here can save you some time and frustration.
