Alright, so I’ve been meaning to get my Lebanese passport sorted out, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I figured I’d share my experience here in case anyone else is going through the same thing.
First off, I started digging around to figure out what the deal was. I knew I needed my Lebanese ID, or “Haweeyee,” as they call it. I also had my old passport, but it was expired, which was a whole other issue. I heard from some folks that you can use both your Lebanese ID and a foreign passport to get in as a Lebanese, and that’s apparently a thing people have been doing since way back in 2009. No thanks, I wanted to have it done the right way.
I found out that these passports are handled by the Directorate General of the General Security in Lebanon. That’s the official title, sounds pretty serious, huh? I also saw something about an express service to speed things up, but I didn’t get into that too much. My case was a normal case and I just wanted a new regular passport.

So, my next move was to get in touch with the embassy. I found a phone number online (00 44 207 229 7265) and gave them a call to book an appointment. That is the first thing you need to do, just call them. I gotta say, the process was smoother than I expected. They told me what I needed for a new biometric passport. Apparently, it’s a bit different if your passport was lost or stolen, but thankfully, that wasn’t my case. I was a bit worried because my old passport was expired, but they said it was fine, I just needed to bring it with me. They said for non-expired passports, the process is a bit different, but I didn’t need to worry about that.
I gathered all my documents, which felt like a mission in itself. I made sure I had my Lebanese ID and the expired passport. It was a bit of a hassle getting everything in order, but I managed.
I went to the embassy, turned in my documents, got my photo taken, and then waited to have an interview with an officer. He just asked some basic questions and checked my documents to make sure everything is OK. After everything is done, I paid the fee and got a receipt. They told me my passport will be ready in one and a half months.
I went back to the embassy, showed them my receipt, and picked up my new passport. What a relief!
And that’s pretty much it. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but it definitely took some time and effort. If you’re looking to get your Lebanese passport, just make sure you have all your documents ready, book that appointment, and be patient.
Hope this helps someone out there!
