How to order Ukrainian ID card online? A simple guide for everyone

So, I wanted to get myself a Ukrainian ID card, and let me tell you, it was quite the process. I started by doing some digging online to figure out what I needed to do.

First, I needed to find out about the requirements and all the documents that they asked for. I went to the official website and read through the page that talked about the passport of a citizen of Ukraine (ID). It turns out that every Ukrainian citizen aged 14 or above who lives in Ukraine needs to have one of these ID cards issued by the State Migration Service. Noted.

I also found out that these Ukrainian ID cards can be used as a travel document to enter Ukraine, Georgia (but only if arriving directly from Ukraine), and Moldova (but only for one entry/exit from/to Ukraine). I thought that was pretty cool. And apparently, Ukraine was the first country to have an e-ID that’s totally valid and can be used everywhere.

I went ahead and scheduled an appointment online. I had to do it on this electronic queue system they had set up. I picked the nearest center for the provision of relevant services and chose a date in August 2024. Yep, that far out. I wanted to get this done, so I figured, better to be prepared.

Once I got to the center, I realized I needed to bring a bunch of documents with me. I made sure I had everything they listed, like my birth certificate, some passport photos, and proof of my residence in Ukraine. I double-checked everything to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Also, I learned that this ID card is actually a plastic card. They said I could put my electronic signature on it, too, which I thought was pretty modern.

The whole process took a bit of time. After submitting all my documents and filling out the forms, I had to wait a bit. It was not an instant thing. But finally, I got my Ukrainian ID card. It was a bit of a hassle, but now I’m glad to have it.

So, if you’re planning to get a Ukrainian ID card, make sure you check all the requirements, get all your documents in order, and be prepared for a bit of waiting. It’s all worth it in the end, though.
