Okay, so, I’ve been needing a Sri Lanka ID card for a while now. It’s one of those things you just gotta have, you know? I mean, it’s like, your official proof that you’re a legit Sri Lankan citizen and all that.
First off, I started by doing some digging online. Just wanted to see what the deal was, how to get one, what I needed, where to go and stuff like that. Turns out, there are a bunch of places that offer to help with this. Found a lot of stores online, I think it’s called Ubuy or something, they are selling a lot of different types of ID cards, and they have discounted prices. But it is still a little bit expensive.
I also found some info on some official-looking websites, talking about the Ministry of Urban Development and some authority related to construction and IDs. Seemed kinda complicated, to be honest. Then I stumbled upon a website that lets you create your ID photo online. That was pretty cool, and it’s free! You just upload a picture, and it makes sure it fits all the official rules for ID photos. Saved me a trip to a photo studio, which was a plus.

So, I got my photo sorted out, and then I had to figure out where to actually apply for the ID card. Found out that if you’re a student, you can go through your school principal. But since I’m not in school, I had to go to these places called Divisional Secretariats. I read somewhere that these are the spots where you go to get your National Identity Card, or NIC as they call it.
I finally decided to just go for it. There’s this one place online that looked reliable, they had some decent designs, and you could customize your card a bit. They even print employee badges and student IDs, so I figured they knew what they were doing. I designed my card online with my new ID photo that is perfect and ordered it.
Waiting was a bit of a pain. But, I get it, these things take time. I was checking my mailbox like crazy, though.
- Opened the package, and there it was, my brand new Sri Lanka ID card.
- It looked pretty legit, had all my info on it, and the photo looked good.
- Felt good to finally have it in my hands.
Finally, it arrived!
So yeah, that’s my story of getting a Sri Lanka ID card online. It wasn’t too bad, but it did take a bit of research and some waiting. But now I’ve got it, and that’s what matters. If you need one, don’t wait too long like I did, just get on it!
