Okay, here is my sharing about getting a Vanuatu driving license:
I’ve been planning to stay in Vanuatu for a while, like more than three months. So, naturally, I needed to get myself a Vanuatu driver’s license. That’s the rule, you know, if you’re gonna be cruising around their roads for that long.
Looked up the rules
First thing I did was hit up the internet to figure out what the process was like. Turns out, it’s the Vanuatu Police Traffic Section you gotta deal with. They’re the ones who handle all the license applications.

Got the forms
The Traffic Unit of VPF issues Driver Licences. I found out that you can actually download the forms online. I think that saved me a trip, which was pretty convenient. Did you guys know that the Learners Driving Licence is administrated by Road Traffic (Control) [CAP 29]?
Filled them out
Filling out the forms was no big deal. Just your usual stuff – name, address, the kind of license you’re applying for. Nothing too complicated, really.
Submitted the application
Once I had everything filled out, I went ahead and submitted my application. I guess now is the waiting game, haha. Hopefully, it doesn’t take forever to get approved.
Received my license
Within minutes, I got my digital International Driving Permit! Now I am ready to go explore Vanuatu, especially the beautiful beaches!
Some thoughts
- Honestly, the whole thing was smoother than I expected. I was kinda dreading it, thinking it would be a huge hassle, but it wasn’t bad at all.
- It’s essential for drivers to have all necessary documents for using public roads legally. These documents, including a valid driver’s license.
- If you’re planning on getting a license in Vanuatu, just make sure you have all your documents in order and follow the instructions carefully. You should be fine!
Alright, that’s my experience with getting a Vanuatu driving license. If any of you are going through the same process, feel free to ask me any questions. I’ll try my best to help you out!
