So, I’ve been meaning to get my hands on an Afghanistan ID card for a while now. It’s one of those things that’s super important for just about everything over there, you know? Like, if you want a job or even just to enroll in school, you gotta have this card. Anyway, I finally decided to figure out how to get one online. It took some digging, but I figured it out, and I thought I’d share my experience.
First, I found out that they started rolling out these electronic ID cards, or e-Tazkira as they call them, at a few different Population Registration Office agencies. That’s a pretty big deal since these new cards are supposed to be valid for, like, 10 years. I guess they are trying to make things more efficient, which is cool.
I started looking into the National Statistics and Information Authority, or NSIA for short. They are the ones in charge of this whole thing. Seems like they’ve been working on this for a few years now. This whole thing can be a little confusing, but I kept at it.

The first thing I did was search for how to take a photo for it. I used my phone to take a picture of myself. It was simple and fast.
Next, I filled in the form to get the card. I filled in all my details carefully. It took some time to finish filling in the form. But I felt good after I did it.
Then, I paid for it. There are a few options to choose from and it was easy. I didn’t have any trouble doing this.
Finally, I just had to wait a bit. After a few days, they sent me the details about collecting the card. I went to the office to collect it and I was so happy to get my hands on it!
I heard that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is involved in this somehow, maybe with linking it to passports and stuff. Makes sense, I guess, since they deal with migration.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:
- Searched for information on the e-Tazkira and the NSIA.
- Took a photo of myself using my phone.
- Filled in the online form with all my details.
- Paid the fees.
- Waited for a few days.
- Collected my new ID card!
It wasn’t too bad, all things considered. Just took a little patience and some time online. Hopefully, this helps someone else out there who’s trying to get their Afghanistan ID card!
