Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout gettin’ a Jamaican driver’s license online. Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me, but I figured I’d tell ya what I heard, just in case you’re curious. Now, I ain’t never done nothin’ like that online, I’m more of a face-to-face kinda gal, ya know? But these young’uns and their computers, they do all sorts of things.
So, apparently, you can order one of them Jamaican driver’s licenses. They say it’s for folks livin’ in Jamaica, or maybe even folks who ain’t there no more. How they do it, I ain’t quite sure. Sounds complicated. They say you gotta fill out some forms. Probably gotta give ’em your name and such. They called it “Form FEO-1”. Fancy name, huh? You can get it at the Tax Office, whatever that is. Or, get this, online! On the computer! These young people, I tell ya.
They say you need pictures, too. Passport pictures, they call ’em. Two of them, I think. Gotta make sure you’re lookin’ spiffy, I reckon. Even if it’s just for a picture on a card. Then, you gotta send it all off to some office somewhere. Probably gotta pay ’em some money, too. Nothin’s free these days, that’s for sure.

Some folks say you gotta take a test, too. A written one and one where you gotta drive around. Shows you know the rules of the road and all that. I reckon that makes sense. Can’t just be handin’ out licenses to anybody. Gotta make sure they ain’t gonna run over nobody’s chickens, ya know?
Now, they say if you ain’t in Jamaica, you can still renew your license, too. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? I guess that’s good for folks who moved away but still wanna have that little piece of home with ’em. I don’t know how that works either, probably more computer magic.
Here is what I heard you gotta do:
- Fill out that Form FEO-1 thingamajig.
- Get two of them passport pictures.
- Send it all to the Tax Office place.
- Pay ’em some money, probably.
They say it takes about ten workin’ days to get it all done. Ten days! Back in my day, we walked uphill both ways just to get to the outhouse! But I guess that’s fast for the government. They ain’t known for bein’ speedy, that’s for darn sure.
Now, they also talk about somethin’ called an International Driver’s License. Sounds fancy, don’t it? I guess that’s for folks who wanna drive in other countries. Same process, they say. Just another form to fill out, I reckon. More money to pay, too, I bet.
Before you go doin’ all this, you best be preparin’. They say you gotta do some things leadin’ up to your exam. I don’t know what all that entails, but I reckon it involves studyin’ them road rules. And maybe practicin’ your drivin’ so you don’t hit nothin’ or nobody.
Here’s more I heard:
- If you want to order Jamaican driver’s license online, you gotta be Jamaican.
- You can renew your Jamaican license even if you are abroad. How about that!
- There’s a written test and a drivin’ test, to make sure you ain’t a menace on the road.
- It takes about ten days to get your license. That’s like a week and a half!
This whole order Jamaican driver’s license online thing, It’s all a bit much for me, if I’m bein’ honest. I like things simple. But I guess if you need a Jamaican driver’s license and you’re into all that computer stuff, then maybe it’s worth lookin’ into. Just be careful who you give your information to. Lots of crooks out there, even on the computer, they say.
I heard that you gotta start by gettin’ a learner’s permit. Then you gotta take that written test. And then the drivin’ test. Seems like a lot of hoops to jump through, but I guess that’s just how it is. They say it’s a clear process, though. So maybe it ain’t as hard as it sounds. Still, I think I’ll stick to walkin’. It’s good for the bones, ya know?
So, if you’re a Jamaican and you’re lookin’ to get your driver’s license, I hope this helps a little. I still don’t understand all this online mumbo jumbo. But these are what I heard, hope it makes some sense. Just remember what I said about them crooks. And be sure to study them road rules! You don’t wanna end up in a ditch somewhere. Or worse, runnin’ over someone’s prized rooster! Good luck to ya, and be safe on them roads!
