Okay, here’s my personal experience about getting a Ghanaian driving license:
Man, getting a driver’s license in Ghana, it’s a whole thing, let me tell you. First off, I had to get my butt down to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit intimidating at first, all those people and forms, you know?
So, the first step was getting this learner’s permit. Apparently, you gotta be at least 18 years old to even apply for a private vehicle license. I just made the cut! It doesn’t matter if you’re a local or a foreigner, anyone can apply, as long as they are a resident, I guess.

I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork. I don’t even remember all of it, but I definitely had to prove who I was and where I lived. I had to do this medical examination, it was some basic stuff, I think they want to make sure you’re physically fit to drive or something.
Then, the real fun started: the tests! I thought I knew how to drive, but these tests, man, they were something else. First, there’s a written exam, it was okay. Some of the questions were tricky, but I managed to get through it, I guess I just got lucky.
Then, I had to take a driving test. I hopped in the car with this stern-faced examiner. He was watching my every move, made me nervous as hell. I was doing parallel parking, three-point turns, and all that jazz. I thought I messed up a few times, but somehow, I passed. I guess I got lucky with this examiner.
Once I got past all those hurdles, it was just a waiting game. And after a few weeks or so I got my license. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the cost. It was around 257 Ghana cedis, I think.
And you know what’s funny? After all that, I also found out you can get an International Driving Permit. I didn’t need it, but it’s good to know, I guess.
So yeah, that’s my story of getting a Ghanaian driver’s license. It wasn’t easy, but I got it done. Now I can cruise around town, no problem! I’m just happy it’s over.
