So, the other day, I needed to get an Ivory Coast ID card, and let me tell you, it was quite the process. I thought I’d share my experience here, just in case anyone else finds themselves in the same boat.
First off, I started by doing some digging online. Found out that there are two ways to schedule an appointment, online or by phone. I’m more of a phone guy, so I dialed up that number (+225 20 00 48 76) and booked a slot. Easy peasy. After I was told to go to the Resident Card Application Center, so I did.
Next up, I had to gather all the required documents. And I mean ALL of them. They needed everything but my blood type, you know what I mean? There’s a detailed list somewhere online, but honestly, it’s a headache to go through. Just make sure you have everything they ask for, or else it’s back to square one. I even found out a bunch of countries don’t need a visa to enter Ivory Coast, lucky them.

Once I had my paperwork in order, I headed over to the relevant authorities to apply in person. I guess it’s important to have. Yeah, as a foreigner in Ivory Coast, this part is mandatory. Handed everything over, crossed my fingers, and hoped for the best.
Waiting Game
- The waiting game: They told me I’d get an SMS when my card was ready for pickup, which could take up to 45 days. 45 days! Can you believe it?
- Renewal: Oh, and get this, for renewals, you gotta buy a stamp through the ONECI website. Like, why can’t they just make it simple?
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I got that glorious SMS saying my card was ready. I rushed over to collect it, and let me tell you, holding that ID card in my hands felt like winning the lottery.
So yeah, that’s my story of getting an Ivory Coast ID card. It wasn’t a walk in the park, but I got through it. If you’re going through the same thing, just remember to stay patient and persistent. You’ll get there eventually!
