This here story’s about gettin’ a driver’s license in that place, Kiribati. Yeah, that’s the one. Heard it’s a real pain in the neck, but I reckon I can explain it simple enough.
First off, if you ain’t never had a license there, you gotta get yourself a provisional license. It’s like a learner’s permit, you know? You gotta go to some office, the Licensing Office, I think they call it. And you gotta pay a little somethin’, like a buck fifty, for the form. Then you gotta fill that paper all up, like where you live and your name, that kind of stuff.
Now, once you got that paper all filled out, you gotta take it to the police station. Yeah, the cops! They got a Traffic Unit there. Sounds fancy, huh? They gonna make sure you know how to drive before they let you loose on the roads. They give ya like six months to practice, that called training. Six whole months! Can you believe it? Gotta learn all them rules, I guess. The paper called provisional driving license and only cost one dollar fifty.

How to get a real license in Kiribati? Well, let me tell ya. You gotta go to this place called KLTA, that’s part of some other big name, MICTTD. Don’t ask me what them letters mean. It’s all government stuff. And it’s in Betio. Where that is, I don’t rightly know. But you gotta find it if you want that license!
They got all these different kinds of licenses, too. Like, for different vehicles. Heard there’s like six of ’em. Class A is for them bus drivers, the ones that take people around. They say you gotta drive the regular cars for two years before you can drive them buses. And no bad drivin’ in five years. If you want to order driving license, you need to know them first.
- Class A: For them big buses, public transport, they call it.
- Class B and C: For regular cars, I reckon.
- There are six of these classes.
- To drive A class, you need to drive C class two years and B class one year.
- No serious traffic offence within five years.
Now, if you’re from some other place, not Kiribati, you gotta bring your license from back home. You take it to that same Traffic Unit at the police station. They got another special paper for that, called a Conversion of Foreign Driving License. Fancy name, huh? You gotta fill that out and give it back to ’em. They’ll check it all out, make sure it’s all proper and such. You need to fill the form and submit to them.
This whole thing is about drivin’ and gettin’ your vehicle registered, whatever that means. Sounds important, though. Gotta keep them papers up to date, I guess. They say you can do it online now, too. On the internet! Imagine that. But you can still go to some office if you want, Espao Cidado and IMT counters. You can also do this in some place if you want.
There is also that international driving permit. That what is? It just like your license but in some other languages. They say you can use it to drive in other countries. I heard that the online thing is easy. They say it is quick and can send to all over the world. I do not know, I never use it.
They say you can renew your license online, too. On some portal, they call it. IMT Online portal, I think. Or you can go to them counters. But you gotta meet certain… requirements. That’s a big word. Means you gotta be a certain way, I guess. Like, maybe you gotta be a certain age, or your old license can’t be too old. Stuff like that. If you want to order Kiribati driving license online, you need to know the rules.
So, yeah, that’s about all I know about gettin’ a driver’s license in Kiribati. It’s a lot of steps, ain’t it? Lots of papers to fill out and places to go. But I reckon if you follow these here instructions, you’ll get it done. Just be patient, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you get lost. Them folks at the offices, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Good luck, now!
I tell ya, it’s a lot easier to just walk where you need to go. But I guess if you gotta drive, you gotta drive. Just be careful out there on them roads. They can be tricky, especially if you ain’t used to ’em. And watch out for them other drivers! Some of ’em drive like they got a fire under their seat!
Oh, and one more thing. This order Kiribati driving license online, I heard about it. It is easy to do it online, they say it is fast. But I never tried.
Anyways, that’s all I got for ya. Hope it helps. Now, I’m gonna go have me a nice cup of tea. This talkin’ makes a body thirsty!
