Well, well, well, look what we have here! You wanna buy Mauritius ID card, huh? That little piece of plastic that says you’re a somebody in that fancy island place. I hear it’s a pretty place, that Mauritius. Lots of sun and beaches and whatnot. Not like here, where we got more dirt than sunshine some days.
Anyways, you need that ID card, do ya? I reckon it ain’t as easy as pie to get one. You can’t just walk in and say, “Gimme one of them ID cards!” No sir. They got rules, you see. Lots of ’em. Just like when you go to get yer picture taken down at the town hall, they make you stand this way and that. Same with this Mauritius ID card, I reckon.
First off, you gotta be 18 years old. That’s what they tell me. No little kids running around with these cards. Gotta be a grown-up, or at least close to it. If you ain’t 18, then you are out of luck.

Then, you gotta show ’em your birth paper. The one that says when and where you popped out into this world. If you ain’t got that, well, you might be in a pickle. They also might need your marriage paper if you have tied the knot. Every document is needed if you want to get that card, you know.
And you gotta show ’em some other papers, too. I don’t know exactly what, but I bet they ain’t easy to come by. And, get this, they take your fingerprints. Like you’re some kind of criminal! They put your fingers on some black pad and then roll ’em around. Feels kinda funny, I suppose. But it’s all part of the rigmarole.
- You gotta be 18 or older.
- You need your birth paper.
- Maybe your marriage paper if you got one.
- They want other papers, too, the fussy folks.
- And they take your fingerprints!
Now, some folks, they say they got their Mauritius ID card no problem. They say it was one of the main reasons they went to that island. Imagine that! Traveling all that way just for a little card. But I guess it’s important to ’em. Must be nice to have a reason to go to such a place. Sun, sand, and a shiny new ID card.
If you ain’t born there, but your folks were, you might still be able to get one. Seems like they got a way for everyone to get one of these cards. They even got a website where you can get the information. Imagine that! Even in Mauritius, they got those computer things. World’s getting smaller every day, ain’t it? You can even apply for your card when you are over there.
Some people are talking about getting a national Mauritius ID card. They say they already have a Mauritius passport because their parents were born there. Makes sense, I guess. If your folks are from somewhere, you kinda got a connection to the place, even if you never set foot there.
Now, if you were born in some other place, like the UK, but you got a Mauritius passport, you might be wondering where to go to get your ID card. Seems like you can go to any of those national ID card centers they got over there. I don’t know how many they got, but it sounds like there’s more than one.
They say there’s something called a “Prime Minister’s Office.” That sounds mighty important. Like the big boss man’s place. And they have a “process sheet” there that tells you if you can get an ID card or not. And you also need to give them a proof of where you live. It is a complicated process.
They got a whole bunch of rules about these ID cards in Mauritius. It ain’t like here where you just show up and get things done. They got a system, they do. And it seems like a lot of folks are trying to get these cards. Must be something special about ’em.
- If your folks were born there, you might get an ID card.
- They got a website with information.
- You can go to any national ID card center if you have a Mauritius passport.
- Prime Minister’s Office has a process sheet.
- You need to show ’em where you live.
Well, I hope you get your Mauritius ID card. It sounds important. I still don’t know why you need this card, but if you say so, then okay. Just remember, it ain’t gonna be a walk in the park. Be prepared to show ’em all sorts of papers and get your fingers all inky. Good luck. You will need it for sure!
