Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get a Korean driving license for a while now. I mean, who wouldn’t? It’s like a rite of passage when you’re living here, right? So, I finally decided to go for it and let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey.
First things first, I had to figure out where to even start. I did some digging and found out that you gotta hit up one of those Driver’s License Examination Offices. Apparently, they’re open on weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM. Perfect, I’m free on weekday afternoons. So I planned to head over there one afternoon.
Next, I learned that if you have a license from another country, it makes things a bit easier. Some countries have agreements with Korea, so you can just swap your old license for a Korean one. Turns out, my country is on that list! I just needed a health check, no big deal. But for some others, you might have to take a written test. It’s like 40 multiple-choice questions, so not too bad, I guess.

I went to the examination office, filled out some forms, and got my health check done right there. It was pretty quick, I just paid 3,500 Won for a temporary license. They handed me a temporary license and I felt like I was getting somewhere!
- Went to the examination office
- Filled out forms
- Got a health check
- Paid for the temporary license
And then, I learned about the actual driving test. I heard you can either sign up for driving lessons or take the on-road test right away. I did some more searching around the web for some schools, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do that. I kinda wanted to just jump into the test, you know?
In the end, I figured, why not just go for it? I mean, how hard could it be, right? I went back to the office, did a bit more paperwork, and signed up for the on-road test. It was a bit nerve-wracking, not gonna lie, but I managed to pass!
So, yeah, that’s the story of how I finally got my Korean driving license. It was a bit of a process, but hey, I did it! And now I can finally drive around this beautiful country.
