Alright, so you wanna get yourself a Myanmar passport, huh? It ain’t as easy as pickin’ apples, let me tell ya. But don’t you worry none, I’ll try to explain it in a way even my old dog could understand.

First thing’s first, you gotta get yourself on that there internet thingy. Folks call it the “www-dot-passport-dot-gov-dot-mm”. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a place you gotta go to make an appointment. They got this thing called a “QR code” you gotta scan or somethin’. What Kind of Passport You Need?

See, there’s different kinds of passports, like there’s different kinds of chickens. You got your regular passport for just visitin’ folks, and then you got one for goin’ to work overseas. They call ’em fancy names, somethin’ like “Passport for Visit” and “Passport for Job”. If you’re goin’ to work, you gotta go register with them folks at the Labour Ministry too. Don’t ask me why, that’s just how they do things.

• Passport for Visit (PV): This one’s for when you just wanna go see places, maybe visit family or somethin’.
• Passport for Job (PJ): This one’s if you’re lookin’ to make some money workin’ in another country. Gotta jump through more hoops for this one, it seems.

Now, these passports, they ain’t free, you know. Nothin’ in this world is free, ‘cept maybe the air we breathe, and even that’s gettin’ expensive with all this dust flyin’ around. They charge you different prices dependin’ on how fast you need it and how long it lasts. Ten years, five years, fast, slow… it’s enough to make your head spin.

I heard tell of some prices, but don’t hold me to it. Sounds like a lot of money to me, though. Something about 6,700 kyats for a regular ten-year one, and then more if you need it in a hurry. And if it’s only for five years, it’s even more expensive for some reason. Don’t make no sense to me, but that’s what they say.

What You Need to Do?

So, after you got your appointment, you gotta go down to wherever they tell you to go. And you gotta bring a bunch of stuff. Papers, mostly. They want to see who you are, where you came from, all that jazz. I ain’t sure exactly what all you need, but they probably got a list on that website thingy I told you about.

And listen here, make sure your passport is good for at least six months after you plan on comin’ back. Otherwise, they might not even let you into the other country. And that would be a waste of time and money, wouldn’t it?

Renewing it is a whole ‘nother story, but it’s kinda the same deal. Go online, make an appointment, bring your old passport and some other papers. They’ll tell you what you need. And you gotta pay again, of course. Always gotta pay.
