Alright, so I’ve been meaning to get a Guam ID for a while now, and I finally got around to doing it. Figured I’d share my experience in case anyone else is thinking about it. I wanted to use the online service because it seemed way more convenient.
First off, I went to the Department of Revenue and Taxation’s website. They’ve got this online thing now for renewing or replacing driver’s licenses and IDs. They call it “*”. It seemed pretty straightforward, but I did run into a few things that I would like to share.
Getting Started with Pre-registration

- Pre-register: Before you can schedule an appointment, you gotta pre-register. It’s like telling them you’re coming before you actually book a time.
- Fill out the forms: You know the drill – name, address, the usual stuff. I found the application forms online, but you can also get them at their office. There are different parts to fill out depending on whether you’re getting an ID or a driver’s license. For a Guam ID, you need to complete Part 1A, 1B, 2, and 4. For a Guam DL, you complete Part 1A, 1B, and 2.
Scheduling the Appointment
- Pick a date: This was a bit of a pain. The website lets you choose a date for your appointment, but if all the slots are full, it just says “no time listed.” You gotta keep trying different dates until you find one that works. I had to select a different date.
- Be flexible: They also mention that your appointment could change due to weather or emergencies. So, don’t get too attached to your first choice.
The Appointment Day
- Gather your documents: Make sure you have all your documents ready. I took my old ID, my birth certificate and some other stuff. I am not sure what is needed for the “REAL ID”, I only applied for a normal ID. Better safe than sorry, you know? But it turned out that I did not need them because I did everything online.
- Head to the DMV: Finally, I drove down to the DMV office. The lines weren’t too bad, but it’s always a good idea to get there early. It’s in Hagta, by the way, if you’re wondering.
- Submit your stuff: Once it was my turn, I handed over my application and documents. The staff were pretty helpful, guiding me through the process. But for me, I did not need any paper documents because I registered online.
Waiting for the ID
- Patience is key: After submitting everything, it’s just a waiting game. They told me it would take a few weeks to get my ID in the mail.
- Got it!: And guess what? A few weeks later, my shiny new Guam ID arrived! It was such a relief to finally have it.
So yeah, that was my experience getting a Guam ID. It wasn’t too bad, but there were a few hiccups along the way. Hopefully, this helps someone out there. If you’ve got any questions, feel free to ask. I am not an expert or anything, but I’ll try my best to answer based on my experience!
Oh, and one last thing. I heard that starting May 7, 2025, you’ll need a REAL ID to fly or enter certain federal buildings. So, if you’re planning to travel, you might want to look into that. Just a heads up!
I can’t wait to share my next adventure. Stay tuned, folks!
