Get Your Hungarian ID Card: Order Online Now

So, I finally got around to getting my Hungarian ID card. I’ve been meaning to do it for a while, but you know how it is – life gets in the way. Anyway, I figured I’d share my experience in case any of you are thinking about doing the same.

First things first, I had to make an appointment. Apparently, you can’t just walk in. They use this online system, which is kind of a pain to navigate if you ask me. It is important to note that you have to book separate appointments for each person, so don’t forget that part. Then, I selected the “Identity card (e-SZIG)” option, and it took me to a website, and I finally managed to snag a slot.

  • Make an appointment online
  • Choose “Identity card (e-SZIG)” service
  • Fill in personal information
  • Submit the application

The day of the appointment, I headed over to the consular section. It was a bit of a trek, but I got there eventually. I went inside, and the waiting room was pretty standard. Nothing fancy, but it was clean, and there were chairs, so that’s something, right? I waited for maybe 20 minutes before they called my name. That was a little annoying.

The actual process of applying for the ID card was surprisingly smooth. I filled out some forms, they took my photo and fingerprints, and that was pretty much it. The staff were professional enough, although not overly friendly. But hey, I wasn’t there to make friends, I just wanted my ID card.

After submitting my application, they gave me a receipt and told me it would take a few weeks to process. I’ve heard it can take longer sometimes, but I’m hoping for the best. They say you can use this ID card to redeem your ePrescription, which is pretty convenient if you ask me. Anyway, I’ll update you guys when I finally receive the card.

One thing to note is that you can only do this in person, which makes sense, I guess. They were only allowing appointments when I went, but that might have changed. Also, I think you can get this done at the Kormanyablak too, but don’t quote me on that.

Oh, and I saw something online about being able to buy Hungarian ID cards from some website. Don’t do that! It’s probably some kind of scam, and you could get into a lot of trouble. Just go through the official channels, it’s not worth the risk.

Overall Experience

All in all, the process wasn’t too bad. The online appointment system could be better, but once you get past that hurdle, it’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have all your documents in order, and you should be good to go.

I’ll keep you all posted on when my ID card finally arrives. Wish me luck!
